"It was not a quick thing,'' Rajna added. Two gang members, Bradley Peltier and Shawn Keefe, were charged with aggravated assault for administering the gang justice to White. A similar charge was withdrawn yesterday against 19-year-old John Carter in return for Peltier's guilty plea.

Only, dad hasn't been there this season. Pat Bickle died on May 5 from complications of paralysis suffered while playing high school football himself, some 34 years ago. Malachi's pregame ritual, which he does before every LS West game, is his way of saluting his father and acknowledging that his dad remains a present force in his life — especially when it comes to football.

"Generally speaking, tattoos are permanent. It always means much more if you can find something in your life, and your children - no matter what - will be your children," he said. At Red Beard Ink Tattoo and Body Piercing in Penbrook, Pa., parents of all backgrounds come into the shop requesting children's portraits, names and symbolic images such as teddy bears or baby rattles, said owner Robert Treat. He has accommodated simple requests for children's initials to complex designs of hockey sticks and hockey mask for a father in honor of his child's favorite hobby. The trend of child-related body art is not new, but it has picked up in popularity in recent years, Treat said. Helping to fuel the surge is the number of celebrities recognizing their children with tattoos.
