County settles civil rights lawsuit

Tattoo Removal: Aviv F. Schwartz filed a lawsuit in state court last year, alleging that Deputy Christopher Green acted offensively when he stopped her on Nov. 4, 2004, for not wearing a seat belt and asked to see her tattoo, claiming he was looking for a suspect with a flower tattoo. She told the deputy she didn't have a flower tattoo, but he demanded that she lower her pants and display the tattoo that was on her lower abdomen, the suit said.

The lawsuit also alleged the county was negligent in retaining Green as an employee "when it knew, or should have known, that he had developed a problem with demanding women expose themselves for reasons that were not legitimate requirements of law enforcement."

Payment by the county, the settlement says, should not be construed to be an admission of fault by the county, which denies any liability.

Jordin: Track by track

Tattoo Removal: Better late than never, here's a more detailed look at Jordin's album than on the official review I posted Monday night. (It's all Jordin all the time so far this week, but we'll broaden out starting tomorrow.)

Basically, the album is - to borrow a phrase that titles a usatoday.com blog that probably wouldn't devote a whole lot of coverage to Jordin - pop candy. Which, I think, is exactly what Jordin needed to do. You can debate the merits of Katharine's trying to make a contemporary pop/R&B album rather than the sophisticated ballad approach so many of her fans wanted (or decided they wanted after they heard what Katharine came up with), but I hope nobody thought Jordin should make an R&B diva spectacular or a sophisticated ballad package or a contemporary Christian record.
