The Barracuda BC-18 should be a staple in any ones self defense toolbox. Small and compact but with enough stopping power to get the job done, the Barracuda BC-18 is the premier of stun guns.
The first two stun guns in the Barracuda line, the 1 million volt BC-10 and the 1.2 million volt BC-12 were introduced to the public in November of 2007 by Bret Harders of Over The Counter Intelligence. Mr. Harders had been retailing stun guns since 1998 and had decided to enter the wholesale market after noticing a sharp decline in the quality of stun guns available on the market. The 1.8 million volt BC-18 was introduced shortly after and the success of the line speaks for itself.
Many people refuse to carry a hand gun, at all cost. However stun guns, which are most commonly referred to as less or non-lethal weapons, could be a life saving alternative. These devises work through the use of electricity to incapacitate or subdue an individual. This is achieved by the production of an electrical charge within the stun gun itself. What is produced is high-voltage, low amperage electrical charge when placed in contact with another person would produce a sensation anywhere from a mild electrical shock to temporary disability. This has been proven as an effective means to place under control a person who is considered a threat.
The body is a bio electrical piece of engineering. Bio electrical means that electric impulses generated by the brain and passing through the nervous system is the means how movement, response and thoughts are produced. The electric impulses produce the necessary biological chemicals to make muscle groups respond in a particular manner. You can liken it to your computer with you as the brain typing on the keyboard the necessary electrical impulses to generate the icons on the screen or have the computer perform its tasks. Now, by placing an external electrical current into the computer system, you will see that the original electrical impulses of computer become overloaded causing the system to short circuit and shut down. How a stun gun works is by coming into contact with a person; the nerve impulses are shorted out making it impossible for the body to decipher any electric message causing the body to short out and shut down. The shutting down process of the body is what helps in controlling the movements a person can do after being targeted.
The Barracuda BC-18 produces a whopping 1.8 million volts of current with is more that enough to disable an attacker. One should also keep in mind that the current will not passed between between you, if the assailant comes in contact with your body. Also, although there are some conflicting reports, studies have showed that because stun guns focus on the skeletal muscles they will not effect the rhythm of a pacemaker. With this being said, the Barracuda BC-18 can be used almost without reservation. Although stun guns are legal in most states, be sure to check with your local law enforcement agencies to determine the legality in your area.
