When looking for a job, most of us try to put our best foot forward, attempting to sell our skills to potential employers. We know competition is tough, and companies where we’ve applied will do their utmost to check us out, size us up, verify our background and otherwise thoroughly evaluate our potential fit with the organization. The majority of our efforts are wielded to impress the managers and get that coveted job offer. Yet, how do we even know we want to work for that company? Few jobseekers research the company as thoroughly as it does them. Then, days, weeks, even months into the new position we start to realize we’d made a mistake.
Career coaches encourage us to make every effort to find out and evaluate as much as possible about the potential employer – from organizational structure, internal culture and fiscal bottom line, to policies, strategies and marketplace reputation. So much of our future success depends on managerial styles of prospective superiors, it is imperative we get to know more about them before misery at work starts to poison most aspects of our existence. Yet, this information is not exactly available on the company Web site.
It is possible, however, to learn enough information from their Web site to start a more thorough search elsewhere. The names and phone numbers of the key players can be investigated on a much deeper personal and professional level. Previously received cell phone calls regarding job opportunities can also be utilized in reverse cell phone lookups to get to public records and reveal prior employee lawsuits or public financial scandals the business or its officials may have been involved in. The unearthed information may just shed new light on that recent high turnaround. Reverse cell phone or email lookup and other available search tools can protect our rights and help us make informed decisions. We can shape our destiny after all.
